Re “A Combative Trump Says ‘America Is Back’ and Taunts His Political Rivals” (news article, nytimes.com, March 5):

President Trump’s address on Tuesday night attempted to tell us that what we are seeing and experiencing is not what we are seeing and experiencing. But we are not fools.

We see that this is no “Golden Age of America” — except for the extremely wealthy. As workers are fired, programs benefiting our safety, health and well-being are axed, and a tariff war is initiated, the rest of us pay the price. Children, families and the vulnerable suffer.

In her welcoming remarks, Campos-Pons told the crowd that, rather than a protest, “this is a walk of love, a walk for hope, a walk for the future, a walk for people who precede us and for people who are not yet here.” Billed as a “Procession of Angels for Radical Love and Unity,” the event spans two mornings in September. Last Saturday’s route started at the Harlem Art Park, a cobblestone site on East 120th Street in the heart of a neighborhood home to African Americans and people from Puerto Rican, Mexican, Caribbean, and African diasporas. The second procession is on Sept. 20 and will begin in Central Park and end in Madison Square Park, in the wealthy Flatiron district.

Icom said in a statement Thursday that it had not shipped any of the IC-V82 radios from its plant in Wakayama, Japan, in roughly a decade. But the company has long warned of what it called a surge in counterfeit IC-V82 transceivers.

We see that Mr. Trump is not taking America back — unless he means taking it back to an era before civil rights, which, with his endless attacks on D.E.I., it seems he does.

We watch Elon Musk plunder our institutions and our data. We watch Vice President JD Vance bludgeon our allies and Mr. Trump express bizarre conqueror ambitions toward other nations.

We watch Republicans ingratiate themselves obsequiously to this reign of ignorance, cruelty and egomaniacal power grabbing.

Now we have watched enough. We want our country and democracy back from the clutches of men who have shown themselves to be ill suited to be president and vice president. Let them be the king and the court jester of Mar-a-Lago.
